Some words show up so often that sounding them out every time would wear a reader out before the good part of the story. Those are sight words, and this free pack covers the classic first 40: the, said, you, little, and their three dozen friends.
What’s inside (8 pages)
- A cover that explains sight words in one paragraph and shows all 40 at a glance.
- Seven practice pages, six words each. Every row runs the same calm routine: read the word, trace it twice on a school-style handwriting guide, then write it yourself on the empty guide below. One page a day is the plan.
The out-loud rule
The magic step is not on the paper. After each page, ask for one of today’s words in a spoken sentence. “I can JUMP off the couch” counts. “Can I have THREE cookies” definitely counts. Saying the word in the wild is what moves it from the worksheet into the reader.
These pages pair naturally with our free alphabet tracing pack before, and Stretch a Sentence after, when single words are ready to become whole silly sentences.
Forty little words, one growing reader. 📖
