Halloween Word Search for Kids

A not-too-spooky word hunt for ages 4–9

Ages 4–92 pagesSeasonal

Instant PDF download · print at home · letter size, ready in seconds

October has a way of filling up fast. Here is one cozy afternoon activity you can have on the table in two minutes: a Halloween word search made for young readers, with twelve friendly words hiding across and down. No backwards words, no diagonals, and nothing spookier than a very polite ghost.

What’s inside (2 pages)

  • Page 1: The puzzle. An 11 by 11 grid with a picture word bank, so pre-readers can match the emoji to the word they’re hunting.
  • Page 2: The answer key. Every word highlighted, for grown-ups or for very clever detectives who want to check their own work.

Why a word search is sneaky-good practice

To find PUMPKIN in a grid of letters, a child has to hold the word in their head, scan in order, and check letter by letter. That is real early-reading work dressed up in a costume. The word bank doubles as a spelling list, and crossing off finds feels wonderful at any age.

If your crew wants to keep the Halloween learning going, our Learn with Ellie the Witch unit study stretches the fun into pumpkin math, spider science, and the history of the holiday itself.

Print it, sharpen a pencil, and happy hunting. 🎃

Common questions

Can I print it more than once?

Yes. Once it's yours, it's yours. Print fresh copies as often as you like for the people in your own home, this year and every year after. Many families print one for each person, reprint a page when a first try becomes a happy mess, or slip a copy into a dry-erase sleeve so it can be used again and again. The only thing we ask is that you don't share or resell the file itself; printing for your own household, as often as you need, is exactly what it's made for.

What sizes do the pages come in, and will they print at home?

Most of our printables include three ready-made sizes: US Letter (8.5" × 11"), A4, and A5, so they fit a standard binder, an A5 planner, or the fridge door equally well; the "What's inside" list above shows exactly what's included with this one. The files are high-resolution PDFs that print crisply on any ordinary home printer, in color or plain black-and-white, on regular paper or cardstock. No special software is needed; anything that opens a PDF can print it.

How do I get it?

It's a free instant download, right from this page: no email address, no checkout, no waiting. Click the download button above and the PDF lands straight in your downloads folder, ready to print. If you'd like first dibs on future freebies, the Kind Street email list is where new printables are announced first, but the download is yours either way.

Can I use it for a classroom or co-op?

The included license covers personal use for your own household: printing for yourself, your kids, and your immediate family. If you'd love to use it with a co-op group, a classroom, or another larger setting, we're genuinely happy to chat about it; just send a note to info@kindstreetlibrary.com and we'll work out something fair. What we can't allow is sharing or reselling the files themselves, which keeps a small family shop like ours able to keep making these.
